The island itself is a 375-acre haven for wildlife, including rehabilitated bird colonies, rare endemic birds, turtles and more, and Denis Island Lodge is the only accommodation on the paradisiacal island.

Find yourself riding a bicycle through the island’s farmlands, spotting endemic birds and ancient tortoises. Or make use of the lodge’s kayaks to explore the waters of the surrounding ocean and lagoon and, as the waters around Denis Island are protected, fish and coral reefs thrive here. The lodge also offers catch and release fishing and has an onsite dive centre for those who wish to submerge themselves in Denis’ underwater wilderness.

Mealtimes showcase the island’s Creole heritage and food is, as much as possible, sourced from the Denis Island farm including milk, cheese, pork, fowl and fish as well as a variety of fruits and vegetables.

After a day out exploring the island and its lush tropical waters, and tucking into superb, locally sourced food you can kick back and relax in style in your private cottage which is just a short walk from the beach. The cottages are bright, timeless and romantic making them ideal for couples, but young children are welcome and families will love Denis Island’s Beach Villa with its spacious rooms and private plunge pool.

The Lodge

Denis Island Lodge has just 23 cottages, all decorated in a classic style and the furniture and flooring has been crafted at the on-site carpentry workshop. Choose from a Beach Cottage, or perhaps you fancy a little more space so you can opt for a Deluxe Beach Cottage. Those looking to pamper themselves will love the Beachfront Spa Cottage and families with young children can enjoy privacy and exclusivity at the Beach Villa.

All the cottages offer up all the luxuries of a high-end hotel, including air-conditioning, tea and coffee-making facilities and a mini fridge and they also have open-air, ensuite bathrooms with outdoor showers and a double vanity.

The main areas have, most notably, a spacious infinity pool overlooking the ocean a lounge area, dining room serving food that is sourced locally from the island’s farm and a wine cellar. Spa services are available during your stay and are undertaken at your room or outdoor treatments are offered beneath the trees, listening to the rustle of leaves dancing in the ocean breeze and the gentle of the waves as they tickle the island’s remote beaches, just a short walk from your private patio.

Facilities

Indulge in spa treatments which are offered in your room, catch and release fishing, sunset cruises, a variety of water sports, guided land activities as well as romantic ceremonies.

Dining

Expect environmentally conscious farm to table dining with hot and cold breakfast offerings, buffet style lunches and five-course table d’hote menus at dinner time. Private dining is also available.

How a stay at this lodge makes your trip more responsible

Denis Island has an impressive conservation track record. The Green Islands Foundation has a permanent outpost here and has overseen the translocation of some of the Seychelles’ rare endemic birds from areas where they are threatened to the sanctuary of Denis Island. A morning walk could yield sightings of a Seychelles fody, magpie robin, paradise flycatcher and the Seychelles warbler.

Furthermore, it is a safe haven for nesting Hawkesbill and green turtles, who are tracked and monitored. The island’s coral reefs have also been extensively researched and nurseries and feeding grounds for fish and turtles have been established to such an extent that the Seychelles government has declared the waters around Denis Island a protected area.
