A luxurious Arabian city defined by a thriving culture and lustrous coastal beauty.

Muscat looks beautiful during a gentle sunset as it peaks through its neighbouring hills. The unique coastal position of this beloved capital city brings a comforting atmosphere to any tour.

Nestled between rugged mountains and the azure Arabian Sea, Muscat, Oman’s capital, exudes a characteristic blend of opulence and tradition. Renowned for its flawless coastline, the city homes some of the best hotels in Oman, along with beautiful, private beaches which cater to travel enthusiasts from far and wide.

The wave-kissed sands of Qurum Beach and the lush grounds of the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort present an oasis of relaxation and indulgence against a backdrop of natural beauty. The glowing coastal waters of the Gulf of Oman creates a charming back drop to the scenery from many of Muscat's  luxury resorts, like the iconic Al Bustan Palace.

Muscat's sophisticated charm is mirrored in its cultural landmarks. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a masterpiece of contemporary Islamic architecture, dazzles visitors with its enormous Swarovski crystal chandelier and intricately woven Persian carpet.

The Royal Opera House Muscat offers world-class entertainment, blending traditional Omani design with modern acoustics, reflecting the city’s preservation of culture while embracing global influences. The Mutrah Souq, with its labyrinthine alleys and aromatic spices, echoes the city’s vibrant mercantile past.

For those seeking a journey through history, Muscat’s Corniche provides a scenic promenade along the harbour, where traditional dhows sail gracefully past modern yachts. The historic Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts stand guard over the city, offering a glimpse into Muscat’s strategic significance through the centuries. Meanwhile, the Bait Al Zubair Museum and the National Museum of Oman provide a gateway to local art and heritage, reflecting the city's purpose throughout history.

The best time to visit Muscat

Much like most of Oman, the best time to visit Muscat would be between October and April, when you can avoid extreme heats. During summer in Muscat, temperatures can reach up-to 40 degrees Celsius, making outdoor activities very difficult, although beach dwelling and museum visiting is of course possible during this time, the low season.

Many of the city's festivities take place between November and March, including the Muscat Festival itself, which features Omani music, art and food during January or February. The pleasant temperatures of the peak seasons and shoulder seasons also make it the perfect time to revel in the city's natural beauty.
