Nestled between rugged mountains and the azure Arabian Sea, Muscat exudes a characteristic blend of opulence and tradition. Renowned for its flawless coastline, the city homes some of the best hotels in Oman, often fronted by pristine, private beaches which welcome worldwide travellers with open arms.

The wave-kissed sands of Qurum Beach and the lush grounds of the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort present an oasis of indulgence against a jaw-dropping, natural backdrop. The glowing coastal waters of the Gulf of Oman are exceptionally charming, enhancing the city's most legendary hotspots with unparalleled panoramas. Many of Muscat's luxury resorts, like the iconic Al Bustan Palace, become a component of this postcard-perfect setting.

Muscat's sophisticated charm is mirrored by its most prominent cultural landmarks. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a masterpiece of contemporary Islamic architecture, dazzles visitors with its enormous Swarovski crystal chandelier and intricately woven Persian carpet.

The Royal Opera House Muscat offers world-class entertainment, blending traditional Omani design with modern acoustics, reflecting the city’s preservation of culture whilst embracing global influences. The Mutrah Souq captures the city's spirit, as echoes of Muscat's mercantile past are felt in each of its labyrinthine alleys, where aromatic spices fill the air.

Muscat’s Corniche is a scenic promenade along the harbour, where traditional dhows sail gracefully past modern yachts in a display of new-meets-old. The historic Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts stand guard over the city, offering a glimpse into Muscat’s strategic significance throughout the centuries. Meanwhile, the Bait Al Zubair Museum and the National Museum of Oman represent a fascinating blend of cultural heritage and modern artistic ventures.

The best time to visit Muscat

Much like most of Oman, the best time to visit Muscat would be between October and April, when you can avoid extreme heats. During summer in Muscat, temperatures can reach up-to 40 degrees Celsius, making outdoor activities very difficult, although beach dwelling and museum visiting is of course possible during this time, the low season.

Many of the city's festivities take place between November and March, including the Muscat Festival itself, which features Omani music, art and food during January or February. The pleasant temperatures of the peak seasons and shoulder seasons also make it the perfect time to revel in the city's natural beauty.
