Scotland beckons with the call of the wild, welcoming in adventurers and home-bodies alike to share in the country's spell-binding beauty and character. Between its cosy towns and sweeping areas of undisturbed nature, a tour of Scotland never fails to make one smile.

The capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh, pulsates with the liveliness of its people and a fantastic blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy. The city is dominated by Edinburgh Castle, a grand and well-preserved spectacle echoing with secrets of a regal past. Wander along medieval streets and the legendary Royal Mile, explore cultural treasures like the National Museum of Scotland, and celebrate art and music during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, adds an unforgettable vitality to any UK tour. Its contemporary charm combines uniquely with its impressive Victorian and art nouveau architecture, alongside a buzzing nightlife and artistic scene. Head to the West End, a bohemian enclave known for its trendy boutiques, cafes, and the beautiful Botanic Gardens.

The Scottish Highlands, a breathtaking expanse of rugged beauty and untamed wilderness, offer an escape into a land where nature reigns supreme and history is deeply etched into the landscape. In Inverness, the River Ness meanders gracefully and, nearby, the enigmatic lake Loch Ness sprawls, filled with secrets of the fabled Loch Ness Monster. Venture further into the heart of the Highlands, where Ben Nevis, the UK's tallest peak, offers challenging hikes and spectacular views for those who reach its summit.

Scotland is surrounded by a range of beautiful islands. The northern Isle of Skye encompasses majestic scenes like Fairy Glen, draped with strange geological formations and mossy groves, pulling you into a fairytale land. Meanwhile, the western Isle of Arran offers an adventure punctuated by wildlife spotting (red deer, Golden eagles and wildcats), ornate castles and beautiful waterfalls.

Scotland’s culture is woven into its every corner. Experience the haunting melodies of traditional bagpipes at a Highland gathering, savour the rich flavors of whisky on a distillery tour in Speyside, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of a ceilidh dance in a local village.

From sea kayaking to birdwatching, secluded luxury restaurants and distilleries to wild camping, you will dream forevermore about Scotland following a luxury tour with Wayfairer.

When to go to Scotland

Scotland follows the same regular, seasonal rhythm as the rest of the UK, but with colder winters and mistier days in the Highlands. Scotland's natural beauty flourishes all times of year, bringing stunning, snowy scenes during winter (December-February) and warm, sweeping hues during autumn and spring.

Meanwhile, summer is the most popular time to visit Scotland, as outdoor activities are met with long, sunny days. However, as this is peak tourist season for the UK, you may want to visit during spring or autumn instead to find a balance between fewer crowds and warmer temperatures. If you're not afraid of a little rainfall, this is a great option!
