Alphonse Island is one of three small islands in the Alphonse atoll, which is considered by many to be one of the most pristine, untouched areas of the world and a nature-lovers paradise.
The island is skirted by a brilliant white beach in the centre of which you’ll find old coconut plantations and dense forest. If you have the heart to tear yourself away from your luxury bungalow or beach suite with its undisturbed ocean views, you can explore the island by foot or on a bicycle.
Effortless style in castaway paradise at Alphonse Private Island Lodge
Stroll beneath the lush green canopy to find ambling Giant Aldabra Tortoises and a cacophony of birdlife; the second highest amount of birdlife in the Seychelles, in fact. At the right time of day you may even lucky enough to spot the Seychelles’ protected Green and Hawkesbill Turtles nesting here.
If you’re a water lover, then take to the seas to go island hoping, snorkelling, diving and swimming with dolphins and manta rays. Keen fishermen and fisherwomen will thrive aboard a guided fishing trip which yields Sailfish, Wahoo, Dogtooth Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado on any given day.
No matter where you’re exploring or kicking back on and around Alphonse you’re serenaded by the gentle swish of the tropical jungle dancing in the sea breeze and the quiet, calming lap of waves onto the island’s pristine white sand beaches. Paradise? We certainly think so.
The Lodge
There are three room types at Alphonse; beach bungalows which comfortably accommodate two people, that are elevated and have wonderful outdoor showers and balconies with a lovely view of the nearby beach and ocean. The beach suites have similar amenities but are a little more spacious and deluxe, featuring private pools and cosy living rooms.
Families and groups will love sprawling out across Alphonse’s super chic, four-bedroom beach villa that has a central swimming pool, open air dining room and ensuite bedrooms with outdoor showers and bathtubs.
Alphonse may be a castaway island, but you can expect all the amenities of luxury living during your stay, including air-conditioning, a mini-bar and Nespresso coffee machine in all the rooms.
Guests are encouraged to gather in the lodge’s central area throughout the day. Here you’ll find a reception, swimming pool, spa, restaurant, and beach bar to share stories, meals and a cocktail or two under the starry Seychelles skies.
Facilities
Snorkelling, diving, fishing and boat trips to the surrounding islands are some of the lodge’s more popular activities. There is also a pool, spa and bicycles for use around the island.
Dining
You can socialize at the central bar and restaurant, you also have the option of dining in privacy on your patio. The menu is a delightful fusion of Western and Creole flavours.
How a stay at this lodge makes your trip more responsible
It’s rare to find such a pristine, protected wilderness, like the Alphonse atoll, and excellent luxury lodging together like this and, at a glance, this paradise seems to come together almost effortlessly. But preserving the flora and fauna of this sensational part of the world is an ongoing task. In 2007 Alphonse established The Island Conservation Centre (ICS) which is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the Alphonse ecosystem. Guests pay a conservation levy that goes directly to the ICS and during your stay you’re invited to be a part of the centre’s important work, including beach clean ups and turtle patrols.
We applaud this dedication to conservation and the balance they have stuck between luxury lodging and eco-friendly, low-impact living at Alphonse.
