Set on a private island in a UNESCO-protected atoll, Dusit Thani Maldives offers supreme luxury in an incredible scenic playground
Strewn across the exquisite Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll, the Maldives’ first and only UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, Dusit Thani Maldives is surrounded by staggering natural beauty.
Relax in paradise overlooking the crystal clear ocean and beautiful white sandy beaches
On arrival at the international airport at Male, you’ll be escorted to a private airport lounge to await your 35-minute seaplane transfer, followed by a 10-minute speedboat ride. You’ll touch down on soft white shores and sapphire seas fringed with palm trees and tropical greenery. Opened in 2012, Dusit Thani Maldives has created a world-class fusion of graceful Thai hospitality and stylish barefoot luxury, combining beautiful Maldivian architecture with modern amenities. You’ll stay in gorgeous, thatched-roof villas designed with natural materials, wooden flooring and Asian silks. Every villa features luxurious touches such as rain showers, private terraces with plunge pools, and direct beach or ocean access. Couples and honeymooners will adore the romantic villas set over the water or on the white sandy beach, while families will love the spacious multi-bedroom beach residences and villas with private pools. The hardest part of a stay at Dusit Thani Maldives is deciding what to do first. You can explore the beautiful natural surroundings on the bike, or get out into the water by kayaking, snorkelling or diving. The resort is located near Hanifaru Bay, renowned for the arrival of manta rays and whale sharks between July and November. For more action, there are floodlit tennis courts, a yoga pavilion, sunset cruises, island nature walks, Thai cooking classes and wine tastings. If you prefer to be pampered, head to the Devarana Spa, where you can indulge in a heavenly treatment in deluxe pods elevated among the palm trees.
The Resort
There are 94 villas and residences, ranging from intimate overwater villas to multi-bedroom beach residences. How this resort makes your trip more responsible
Dusit Thani Maldives is committed to sustainability and self-sufficiency. They produce their own electricity through solar panels, use LED lighting in all guest areas, and use locally produced drinking water. They don’t use chlorine in their pools, process their own sewage, and create compost from leftover food. They’re even aiming to plant their own vegetables and make their own coconut oil from the island’s native coconut trees. There are no plastic bottles or straws on the island (having eliminated single-use plastics for the last four years), and any plastic used has been melted and recycled multiple times. The resort is also a member of BAARU, an organisation for hotels in Baa Atoll, which partners with the local communities to petition the government to introduce eco-friendly practices.
As part of the Dusit Hotels & Resorts brand, the resort is part of wider social initiatives. Dusit is a member of The Code, an industry-driven, responsible tourism initiative that aims to prevent the sexual exploitation of children and has implemented staff training programmes to build awareness of this issue. They also run Dusit Smiles in partnership with Operation Smile, a charity that provides surgery and medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.
