Colombia’s coastal city on the Carribean coastline, Cartagena combines coastal beauty and steeping in history. Cartagena is an enchanting place to visit during your Colombia Holiday with plenty of different places to visit. Historically part of the Spanish Colonial Empire in the 16th century there is a rich spanish influence and history shown through the architecture.

One of the most popular places to visit in the city is the magical walled Old Town, wander around on foot taking in the spectacular architecture whilst exploring the endless restaurants, shops, art galleries, museums and boutique hotels. One of the highlights of the city is the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, the largest fort built by Spanish Colonialists, make your way through it’s tunnels on a guided walking tour. Sitting on top of a hill, its elegant appearance whist enjoying beautiful panoramic views for travellers.

Just outside the Old Town’s walls, the Getsemani has evolved into a bonhemian art enclave, a wonderful place to explore street art with the winding streets covered with large murals. As the night draws in the streets transform into a mass of restaurants and bars.  Make a day trip to the Rosario Islands via a boat ride from the mainland, arrive at white sandy beaches whilst taking in the wonderful marine life.

The Best Time to visit Cartagena

Cartagena has a very humid climate all year round, with warm temperatures making it a great year-round holiday destination. A popular time to visit is between December and April, which is the dry season so it can be slightly busier due to being peak season. During these months, the weather is dry and sunny, making it ideal for exploring the city's historic sites, beaches, and vibrant culture.

The rainy season is during the months May to November with the heaviest rainfall occurring in October and November. While the rain can be intense, it usually comes in short bursts. Traveling during this time is great as less tourists are around  so lots of the popular destinations can be enjoyed with less people around.

During February - March, Cartagena International Music Festival, showcasing classical music which is a great occasion for tourists.
