The Pantanal, a natural haven where wildlife is at peace and comforted by the soothing sounds of its waterways.

A group of capybara huddles together in the Pantanal. Spot the adorable capybara during your Pantanal tour - they are playful and sociable creatures, known for getting along with all species!

An emblem of Brazil's fascinating biodiversity and natural beauty, the Pantanal is the largest wetland ecosystem in the world and teems with an abundance of rare fauna and flora. The Pantanal is situated mostly in the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso du Sul, also spilling into Paraguay and southeast Bolivia, spanning over 200,000-square-kilometres.

Thousands of plant species flourish in the Pantanal, as its sprawling flooded savannahs, grasslands and woodlands foster an ideal environment for diverse, aquatic vegetation. This display of natural harmony is spell-binding, opening your eyes to a part of the world which feels undisrupted and at peace.

Amongst the Pantanal's vast foliage and waterways, a plethora of wildlife wanders. During your Pantanal tour, over 600 bird species flutter above you or drink from the fruitful waters - you see parrots, toucans, stork and waterfowl. Meanwhile, the caiman lurks in darker waters, slipping by your tour boat, and giant otters and capybaras play in the shallows.

Venture on a variety of wildlife watching tours via boat, watch the sky come to life with the colour of bird's plumage, and even embark on fishing trips. Learn about the culture and tradition of this magnificent region, and about the day-to-day challenges faced by the Pantanal's people and wildlife. Become passionate about the protection of this UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and return home feeling closer than ever to Mother Nature.

The Best Time to the Pantanal

The best time to visit the Pantanal actually varies slightly to the rest of Brazil, as most will want to seek out the maximum wildlife sightings possible! You should visit the Pantanal during the dry season if you wish to spot the region's mammals, even the jaguar, as animals will seek out the shrinking bodies of water during the heat. The dry season generally falls between July and October.
