A testament to Kenya’s treasure trove of wildlife and natural beauty
The vast and luscious Laikipia Plateau is one of the best places to visit in Kenya to see wildlife. Located in between Mount Kenya and Samburu, it is made up of several private and community-owned conservancies. As well as offering transformative Kenya safari tours, these conservancies protect the land and bring jobs to local communities, offering an insight into some of Kenya's inspiring sustainability initiatives.
Those who visit Laikipia get to stay in small Kenya safari camps and enjoy a more intimate and rewarding Kenya safari. Visitors can encounter the most precious Kenya wildlife in a pristine, unfenced wilderness without encountering large crowds. Expect mesmerising sightings of majestic elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalos, hippos and warthog, as well as the elusive leopard, striped hyena and wild dog.
Endangered species can be seen here more than anywhere else in East Africa, and Laikipia is recognized for its flourishing numbers of these rare animals.Laikipia also offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy activities that are not permitted in most national parks and reserves, enhancing your Kenya safari vacation with something unique. Transform your trip with wild dog tracking, a guided camel trek with "Karisa Walking Safaris", or even swimming in tumbling waterfalls.
Featured Victoria Falls Trips
Stay in the small town of Victoria Falls, on the bank of the Zambezi or overlooking the grand gorge itself. A stay in Victoria Falls combines brilliantly with other destinations in Zimbabwe and neighbouring Botswana and Zambia. Connections to Jo'Burg are easy too to combine Victoria Falls with a safari in Kruger National Park in South Africa, for example. Here are a few of our favourite itineraries that include Victoria Falls.

Laikipia is a fairly arid region which experiences very little rain. Laikipia is typically very dry from July to October and December to March - these are excellent times of year to visit as animals tend to congregate around the last remaining water sources, making them easier to locate and photograph.
Heavy downpours occur during the months of May and November and the landscape becomes lush and green at this time, however the abundance of vegetation can make it difficult to spot wildlife. The wet weather may also mean that it is not possible to enjoy certain activities, such as a camel safari.
The climate in Laikipia is generally warm all year, with average temperatures of 30°C during the day. Evenings can get quite cool so you should ensure that you bring warm clothing.
