An ancient culture, sweeping sand dunes and colourful coral reefs
The more intrepid among us might feel inclined to cast our eyes a little further up the shore from Kenya's better-known regions, Mombasa and Diani. Here, on the Kenya North Coast, you’ll uncover secret beaches and meandering lagoons, bounding sand dunes, rich, undisturbed culture and open seas filled with marine life.
Venture into the easy-going town of Watamu, where the Watamu Marine Park homes a colourful underwater city of protected coral reefs. You’ll float in the warm Indian ocean water, mojito in hand, before reclining in your pick of high-end Kenya hotels. Hail a local tuk-tuk and head to Mida creek for a canoe adventure and a romantic sunset dinner and locally-guided boat tour – a great addition to an idyllic Kenya honeymoon.
Further North you’ll discover one of Kenya’s hidden gems; Lamu Island. Here, heavenly boat rides transport you past rows of beach huts and an excellent selection of luxury beach resorts. Embark on a guided walking tour of Lamu old town and wind past ancient buildings along quiet, beautiful streets. Whether you stay on Lamu island or the adjacent Manda Island, a spectrum of enchanting Kenya beaches awaits you.
If you’re someone who seeks a quieter Kenya experience, then the Kenya North Coast is the place for you.
