Thatched-roof cabanas encircle Garzacocha Lagoon, a piece of luxury in the Yasuni Biosphere Reserve.
This lodge is inaccessible by road. From Coca, a two-hour motorized canoe ride down the Napo River and a gentle paddle to the southern banks transports guests to the Yasuni Biosphere Reserve. This is where La Selva Lodge is located, overlooking Garzacocha Lagoon.
Nestled within the rainforest surrounded by nature
‘La Selva’ means rainforest in Spanish, and this lodge is located in the heart of Ecuador’s Amazon. It is a slice of luxury nestled into one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, surrounded by millions of species of plants, animals, birds and insects.
With each day, journey just beyond the lodge’s territories to discover monkeys, caimans, jaguars, turtles, marmosets, frogs and a vast array of bird species. Enjoy a variety of self-guided and naturalist-guided hikes by day, and at night, marvel at the incredible biodiversity surrounding La Selva.
Climb up the 125-foot rainforest canopy tower to see tanagers, parrots, toucans, parakeets, woodpeckers, and hoatzins at eye level. Yasuni Biosphere Reserve is known to contain more species of bird than any other region in Ecuador and more than the USA and Canada combined. Winding throughout the property, nature trails connect La Selva Ecolodge with the magnificent forests that surround it. With ample space to explore some of the most impressive unseen areas of the Amazon, La Selva also has plenty of open-air wildlife viewing areas - perfect for an armchair Amazon safari.
For the adventurous and the daring, there’s a jumping board to swim in the lagoon. For those seeking tranquility and relaxation, make the most of the intimate spa treatments that take place on the open-air pavilion with the peaceful sounds of the forest and natural waters below.
Much of the lodge is open-air and lends itself perfectly to the uninterrupted surroundings of an uninterrupted natural paradise. Sundowners on the fully-stocked bar overlooking the lake are a perfect way to see in the evening before heading out on night-time treks or simply relaxing in spacious high-ceiling suites.
The Lodge
La Selva has 19 guest rooms which are spacious and shaded. The efficient design uses a natural cooling system, and whilst not having aircon (to reduce environmental impact), the ceiling fans provide incredible airflow - much needed when travelling to the depths of the Amazon. Suites bring together traditional architecture with modern conveniences. Tastefully decorated beds are draped with mosquito nets, the balcony exposes the rainforest surrounding and rain showers are a refreshing way to cool off. Scenic Suites are located higher up and have fantastic views of the lake, and Family Suites feature a porch, hammock and tub.
Facilities
WiFi, hot water showers, a security box, 110 V electricity, mosquito nets, L’Occitane amenities, robes, slippers, and a hairdryer are available on request. There's also a spa, multiple lounge chairs, viewing platforms, a fully-stocked bar, and a restaurant.
Dining
The restaurant, dining room and lounge are open-plan and boast panoramic views of the lake. Gourmet organic food is provided using local ingredients from the on-site garden to elevate and enhance the international favorites with Ecuadorian flavors. The kitchen specializes particularly in vegetarian, healthy and raw food, and the on-site chef will happily cater to any dietary needs.
How this lodge makes your trip more responsible
Alongside its impeccable credentials as an architectural masterpiece and a game-lover's dream, Onduli Ridge boasts an array of conservation activities, some of which offer guests an exciting look behind-the-scenes of pioneering efforts to protect the planet. To name but a few, Onduli Ridge is particularly committed to sharing the benefits of tourism with the local communities and the conservancy itself through a range of initiatives, including sightings fees. It will also support the Save The Rhino Trust by helping to fund a tracking team. Giraffes - the camp’s namesake – will also benefit since the Camp is supporting efforts to conserve the Angolan desert giraffe. You needn’t feel guilty about the Wi-Fi, either, since the camp is 100% solar-powered.
