Xigera Safari Lodge
Plan My TripWhy We Love It
The thought that has gone into the design and the comfort level at Xigera is hard to beat, and so is the nightly rate in peak season. It is, without a doubt, a stunning camp, and the area is beautiful, especially with the annual flood it will combine well with other top camps in Botswana.

Located in the oldest protected section of the Okavango Delta, Xigera Safari Lodge offers a lavish retreat for those wishing to experience the magic of Moremi’s floodplains and waterways.
Xigera Safari Lodge (pronounced 'keejera') is located in the west of the Moremi Game Reserve and re-opened in December 2020 after a complete rebuild by Red Carnation Hotels (thought to cost over $35 million!).
Take in the breathtaking views from this beautiful lodge
It has tried to position itself at the very top of an exclusive luxury pile of Botswana safari lodges, in terms of the experience it aims to offer as well as the price point. Its most obvious competitors are those with which it will be commonly compared, such as Mombo Camp, Vumbura Plains, Duba Plains and the Selinda Camp.
The lodge is encapsulated in a canopy of indigenous trees, long grassland and luscious wetland. You will find 12 luxury suites and even a treehouse sleepout, all bespoke in design, which couples or groups can enjoy. Discover a multitude of activities, including private game drives, helicopter safaris, bush dining, mokoro boat trips, and many more. The lodge will create custom itinerates, allowing every guest to have a truly unique experience.
The serene pool and welcoming bar, stocked with a world-class wine list, make it easy to unwind; this breathtaking place feels a world away from reality. Relax at the tranquil spa after embarking on a safari to view Africa’s most spectacular, diverse wildlife with a top field guide. Feast on a unique culinary experience where menus change daily to cater to the freshest, local seasonal produce.
Throughout the lodge, you will notice bespoke pieces of furniture, sculptures and artwork in almost every corner. Over 80 artists and studios contributed pieces to Xigera, and it is well worth embarking on the 30-minute guided audio tour around the main area and its highlights. Some of the pieces, like Porky Hefer’s eye-catching seats in the main area are hard to miss, but elements like the hand-crafted table legs in the restaurant are easy to overlook and are under-appreciated.
Xigera Safari Lodge can be visited all year round, but the landscape differs significantly from the annual flood of the Okavango Delta system. You are likely to find vast wetlands and a stunning watery experience if you travel during the dry season (roughly between June and October) and then, conversely, a largely dry experience traversing the empty floodplains and small islands during the wet season (roughly between November and May). The captivating panoramic views of the African bush are unbroken in every direction and will leave you captivated.
The Lodge
Xigera Safari Lodge contains 12 unique guest suites spread across two islands within the Okavango Delta. Each suite is in an idyllic and private location built upon stilts to allow the Okavango’s water and wildlife to pass beneath. It is somewhat hard to describe the extravagance, size and facilities you will find in these vast rooms; from three different air-conditioning systems to control the temperature in the lounge, bedroom and bathroom to exquisite safari-themed fabrics and ceramics and, of course, and well-stocked drinks cabinet complete with hand-written cocktail suggestions.
There is also the opportunity to stay in the magical Baobab Treehouse. This treehouse is built in the shape of a baobab tree to encapsulate Africa’s landscape. You may dine on the top deck or even layout and star gaze to experience the wonder of the African sky.
Enjoy a culinary experience curated by Xigera’s talented chefs with the best produce Botswana has to offer. All are complimented by handcrafted wine from across the globe, which are stored in a climate-controlled cellar. Dine al fresco on the deck overlooking the Delta and gather together after a sumptuous meal around the campfire.
Facilities
Facilities at Xigera include a pool, a gym, a library and a lounge area. There is complimentary Wi-Fi in all public areas. There is an extensive spa programme with treatment rooms stretched out over the Okavango Delta.
Dining
Xigera offers a unique culinary safari. Top chefs use fresh, local ingredients to create traditional and refined cuisine. Guests may dine on The Bomba, where tables spill out onto the deck overlooking the Okavango Delta.
