Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Rwanda

Touch down at Kigali International Airport, where your journey begins. You are met by an energetic welcome, an energy which will be upkept throughout your awe-inspiring African journey.

The vibrant pulse of Kigali beckons as you explore the city's colourful streets on an afternoon tour. Immerse yourself in the cultural tapestry, history, and charm of this fast-growing capital. As the day winds down, unwind at The Retreat, a luxury haven that will indulge your senses as you anticipate the journey ahead.

Days 2-4: Uganda

Day 2 - Journey to Mount Gahinga Lodge

Today, you’ll traverse Rwanda’s breathtaking landscape, a world of rolling green hills that seem to go on forever. The road leads you to Mount Gahinga Lodge, nestled on the edge of Uganda's Mgahinga National Park, where the majestic Virunga Volcanoes dominate the horizon.

This afternoon, you’ll step into the lives of the Batwa people, one of Africa’s oldest tribes. Visit their newly built village and community centre, where the rich history of their traditional life as hunter-gatherers in the forest comes alive through the Batwa Heritage Tour. As evening falls, savour pre-dinner cocktails on the terrace, soaking in the awe-inspiring views of the volcanoes or find comfort by the warmth of a crackling fire.

Day 3 - Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Today is a day that promises to stir your soul. After an early breakfast, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure—gorilla tracking. Trek through the misty, ancient forests of the Virunga Mountains, climbing steep hills cloaked in dense vegetation. Each step brings you closer to one of the most profound wildlife experiences on Earth.

After hours of effort, the moment you come face-to-face with a family of gorillas, camouflaged among the greenery, is nothing short of magical. For an hour, you’ll observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, a deeply humbling and rare privilege. Return to Mount Gahinga Lodge for a well-deserved lunch, reliving the unforgettable experience of the day.

Days 4-7: Rwanda

Day 4 - Trek in Virunga Mountains

After breakfast, set out once more into the Virunga foothills, where another extraordinary encounter awaits: the endangered golden monkeys. With their bright golden fur and playful demeanor, these primates are a joy to watch as they leap gracefully through the forest canopy. After this delightful experience, return to the lodge for a restful afternoon.

Later, bid farewell to Uganda and journey back to Rwanda, where the magnificent Virunga Lodge awaits. Perched atop a hill with panoramic views of the Virunga Volcanoes and the sparkling Lakes Bulera and Ruhondo, it’s a place that feels like a dream. As night falls, gather in the Map Room for an inspiring presentation by researchers from the Dian Fossey Fund, learning about the incredible work being done to conserve these gentle giants.

Day 5 - Gorilla Trekking in the Virunga Mountains

The morning begins with a hearty breakfast before you set off on another gorilla tracking adventure in Parc National des Volcans. The bamboo forest is enchanting as you hike through the mist-laden paths of the Virunga Volcanoes. Again, you will find yourself face-to-face with a gorilla family—another profound moment that connects you with nature in an extraordinary way.

Upon returning to the lodge, treat yourself to a relaxing massage at the Ikirunga Volcanic Spa, then enjoy an exhilarating performance from the Intore Dance troupe, whose vibrant rhythms celebrate Rwandan culture. As the sun sets behind the volcanoes, toast to the day’s adventures with a sundowner on the Western Terrace.

Day 6 - Wildlife Activities at Virunga Lodge

Today is yours to shape. Whether you long for another intimate experience with the gorillas, wish to trek with the lively golden monkeys, or follow in the footsteps of Dian Fossey with a trek to her resting place, the choices are captivating.

Day 7 - Departure Home
