The Resort
El Karama Lodge is a phenomenal family friendly stay in Laikipia. The lodge's Arabic name translates to 'treasured possession', and the property certainly meets this description.
The bright and airy cottages at El Karama are lovingly made of natural reclaimed materials, and are detailed with solar powered electricity, hot water, and flushing toilets. Bandas are great for couples, consisting of spacious central rooms with double beds, en-suites, and a veranda looking on to the river.
The Rondavel cottage is great for a small group or family, with a large double bed, two single beds, a sofa, and a private bathroom. The Hobbit House is the largest cottage, boasting multiple bedrooms and communal areas.
The river tent area is the newest part of the lodge. It is made up of two room safari tents, close to wild game tracks. Each tent has a riverside veranda, an en-suite bush shower and separate bathroom, perfect for a family safari adventure.
Facilities
Guests can go on day and night safaris, use the beautiful pool area, and partake in children’s activities, farming lessons & kitchen tours.
Dining
All food is home-made, 90% of which is grown in the lodge’s organic garden, with a focus on local, rustic flavours.

How this resort makes your trip more responsible
The profits from El Karama Lodge go towards land management goals which consist of preserving the eco system for future generations. The lodge is made from reclaimed wood, runs on solar electricity, and has an eco-friendly pool. The lodge employs local people, who are supported through training and assistance in home projects.
