On this one-week Egypt tour, journey from the glorious ancient era all the way to the modern day in the company of an Egyptologist. Paired with a sumptuous stay in the Four Seasons Nile Plaza, this extraordinary travel itinerary champions all that is great about Cairo, Alexandria and Fayoum. You will cover not only the most legendary landmarks but the hidden wonders of Egypt’s most lively regions.

Begin in Cairo, visiting the Pryamids and Great Sphinx, where the ancient world comes alive, before experiencing modern Cairo as you visit the citadel and wander the largest bazaar in the Middle East. In Alexandria, uncover the secrets of its catacombs and other Roman treasures before strolling through its fascinating museums. Your day trip to Fayoum (or the “Garden of Egypt”) offers something slightly different, as the natural beauty of Egypt is on full display at Lake Qaroun and Wadi Rayan. A final day in Cairo introduces you to some of its finest gems, like the Fortress of Babylon and the treasures of Al-Moez Street.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Cairo

Cairo welcomes you warmly as you land, a Wayfairer representative meeting you for a swift arrival journey and a scenic transfer to your luxury Cairo hotel, the Four Seasons Nile Plaza. Its opulent facilities are all yours for the rest of the day, as well as its incredible vistas of the Nile River, one of the bets vantage points in the city. Enjoy your first meal and settle into your Nile View Room – time to get used to the five-star lifestyle!

Day 2 - The Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum

It is time to commence with your historic tour of Cairo as you visit the iconic Pyramids of Giza, a cultural spectacle steeped in tales of the ancient world. Just to the east of the pyramids is the Sphinx, another marvel with a mysterious background. Your personal Egyptologist guides you through the myths and legends surroundings its construction.

Your afternoon brings another adventure as the Grand Egyptian Museum offers a comprehensive insight of the country’s heritage, displaying over 100,000 artefacts! You are first greeted by a colossal statue of King Ramses II, a memorable experience alongside an incredible view of the Pyramids from the top of the grand stairs.

Day 3 - Magnificent Cairo Tour

Today begins at the magnificent citadel, a medieval fortress which overlooks Cairo from a limestone hill, offering one of the best views in the city. Next, discover the Mosque of Sultan Hassan transports you back to the 14th century, housing the tombs of the sultan’s sons, and the beautifully preserved Refaje Mosque.

Your morning of exploring is completed by a wander through the fascinating Khan El-Khalili Bazaar, the largest bazaar in the Middle East, founded in the 14th century. Its labyrinthine streets allow you to become lost in the market’s aromas, offering up unique crafts, perfumes and much more – the ideal souvenirs for your trip.

Day 4 - Classic Alexandria Tour

The day begins with a delicious breakfast at your Cairo hotel, before you are transferred to the wondrous Alexandria for a historic tour. Start at the magnificent Catacombs of Kom El Shugafa, the largest Roman burial site discovered in Egypt, dating back to the 2nd century AD. There is a predicted 300 individual tombs in the catacombs, designed in the Greco-Roman style.

Next, the recently discovered Roman Amphitheater is another spectacle, containing quintessential mosaic flooring and 800 marble seats. The Alexandria National Museum and the Alexandria Library & Museum bring a tranquil interval to your archaeological adventure, transporting you through time with once-in-a-lifetime exhibitions and artifacts. Close your incredible tour of Alexandria with a visit to Qait Bay Fort, a 15th century beauty which incorporates both a castle and a mosque, one of the most important defensive strongholds in Egypt.

Day 5 - Adventure in Fayoum

Uncover the finest natural scenes of Egypt on today’s trip to Fayoum, where Egypt’s largest oasis is located, a surreal landscape which brings a new kind of magic to your trip. Its abundance of plant life makes Fayoum stand apart from other regions of Egypt, whilst its elaborate heritage offers another peer into Egyptian history. Observe landmarks like its well-known water wheels and take a trip all the way back to the 3rd century.

Following this jaw-dropping encounter with nature, you take a short drive out into the desert valley of Wadi Rayan, a gem which more than lives up to its neighbour. Here, Egypt’s typically arid landscapes are met with beautiful waterfalls and tree-fringed pools, a sight which fills you with serenity.

Day 6 - Coptic Cairo & Al Moez Walking Tour

Your final day in Cairo will not go to waste. Today, your guide brings you around some of the city’s lesser known treasures, beginning with the incredible Fortress of Babylon, located in Coptic Cairo, or the oldest area of the city. This spectacle dates back to the 6th century BC, offering a glimpse of the Persian era. You then move on to a tour of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation, a landmark which tributes Egypt’s elaborate cultural identity, showcasing the country’s multifaceted heritage.

Today’s journey through time suitably finishes at the modern day with a walking tour in El Moez Street, renowned as Cairo’s “open-air museum”. The street dates back to the 10th century and has witnessed various dynasties, but also represents the country’s modern hustle and bustle, the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar being a favourite spot.

Day 7 - Departure Home

Today is bittersweet, as you wave goodbye to beautiful Cairo. You return to the airport and take a smooth departure home, perhaps browsing your camera’s latest snaps as you gaze out the window, Cairo’s sepia streets slowly drifting away. You wonder where Wayfairer will take you next.
